Charles 'Charlie'
Laible |
|
2000 |
|
No other individual has held a greater
impact over a sustained period on Kingston swimming than Charlie
Laible. Charlie was a member of the club for 38 years. He served in
many capacities including President, Vice President, and Treasurer
of the club. He was a co-chairman of the Cherry Bowl committee when
Kingston hosted the Cherry Bowl in 1979 and 1992. He co-chaired the
Tri-County championship meet in 1991. Charlie served as a timer,
stroke and turn judge, and referee for many years. His example of
involvement carried over to his children, of whom five swam in
Tri-County and of whom three have coached. He is a retired
mechanical engineer. Members of the Kingston Swim Club are grateful
for his many years of dedication and leadership. |

David Back |
|
1999 |
|
Perhaps no swimmer has ever captured
the hearts and affected the emotions of the Cherry Bowl swimming
community as David Back. A dominant Kingston swimmer from 1985 to
1992, David's greatest swimming feats came in his teenage years.
First place in the Cherry Bowl 13-14 100m freestyle, second in the
15-18 200m IM at 15, first in the 15-18 100m backstroke at 17, and
first in the 15-18 100m freestyle at 18. David set and reset four
individual and two relay records while at Kingston. A Mid-Atlantic
and junior Olympic qualifier, David went to Lehigh University where
his career and life were tragically cut short by a rare virus. His
teammates closest to him recall that it was "his kindness and
contagious love of life that inspired us all". |
